How To Teach The Turn Against Your Dog
Turn against your dog
(U-Turn to the left, toward your dog)
Begin walking with your dog in the heel position. Holding the leash in your right hand.
Stop with both feet together.
Step back with left leg and turn to the left, facing the right broadside of your dog.
Continue turning until you are facing the opposite direction.
Simultaneously, command "Heel" and bring your right hand holding the leash behind your back. As you do this, bring the leash behind your back and switch the leash back to the left hand.
Signal the dog's position by patting your left leg with your left hand and praise the dog when he complies.
Continue moving forward in the new direction. Switch the leash to right hand as you are walking.
Turn against your dog
(U-Turn to the left, toward your dog) Begin walking with your dog in the neutral position. Hold the leash in your right hand. Stop. Step back with left leg and turn. Simultaneously tug on the leash, and command "Heel". As you do this, bring the leash behind your back and switch to the left hand. Signal the dog's position and praise the dog if he obeys. Continue forward. Switch the leash to right hand.
